Pregnant women

Health care during pregnancy

In Hungary, pregnant women are cared for by midwives and obstetricians. All pregnant refugees have free access to these health care providers. The relevant ministerial instruction (9/2022 III11) is available here. It is important, that free maternity care and obstetric care is also vailable to Ukrainian-Hungarian dual citizens who have permanent residence in Ukraine and left their home country after 24 February 2022. In addition to receiving the care, prescription of medicines related to the care is also available on a subsidised basis.

In the case of maternitycare either by obstetricians or midwives , the place of treatment is always the local health facility. To obtain care from a midwife, you should contact the mentor midwife in the county where you live or any of the mentor midwives listed on this link.

Childbirth

Pregnant women who have fled from Ukraine and have temporary protection are entitled to give birth free of charge in the same way as a woman who is insured in Hungary. Free care is available in all publicly funded institutions, i.e. state, municipal, church. The choice of the place where the care is provided depends on the territorial jurisdiction
